“Kurokawa River, where hot springs have been gushing out for a long time, was known as a place where feudal lords stopped to soak in hot springs in the Edo period. “Shinmeikan” located in Kawabata-dori, the hot spring town of Kurokawa Onsen, is a long-established inn that has been open for 120 years. Our Building along Tanohara River retains the nostalgic taste of good old Japanese inn.
There are 5 hot springs in the building, and you can enjoy the hot springs while listening to the murmuring of the river. In addition, the owner of the inn spent 10 years hand-making each and every particular cave bath which has become the inn’s specialty.
There are only Japanese-style rooms that have not changed since the old days. The well-maintained Japanese-style room with a calm atmosphere is a Japanese space that relieves the fatigue of travelers.
Seasonal ingredients such as mountain vegetables and freshwater fish are served for dinner. The meal that uses the traditional “Irori fireplace” is recommended. Irori fireplace was used as cooking and heating equipment in Japanese houses in the past, but it is rarely seen in modern houses. Using the rare Irori fireplace, they grill skewered fish over charcoal, and grill meat and vegetables by themselves. It is popular among the guests as “It is fun as if you came to the camp.”. The recommended ingredient is the thick-sliced Kumamoto Kuroge Wagyu. If you want to enjoy the original flavor of the meat, it is recommended to grill it quickly in the sunken fireplace. Seasonal freshwater fish are prepared depending on the season. You can enjoy ayu (Ayu) in summer and yamame (Yamame) in winter. Don’t forget to eat Kumamoto’s famous meat such as local Higo beef and horse sashimi. The local cuisine served at the Irori fireplace, where you can feel the traditional culture of Japan, will be a valuable food experience.
After relaxing in the building, you can walk around the hot spring town wearing yukata. If you purchase a bathing pass that is unique to Kurokawa Onsen, you can also enjoy the Kurokawa Onsen hot spring. Spend a relaxing time at Kurokawa Onsen where the Japanese countryside remains. ”
