The total design by Mr. Eiji Mitooka was renewed and opened in September 2017 “Soan Shuzakura”. Mitooka is an industrial designer known for designing famous sightseeing trains such as “Yufuin no Mori Go” and “Nanatsuboshi”. The renewed inn with the theme of “Meeting of Travel Created by Ryokan” attracts attention.
The first lobby lounge that tourists visit has a classic modern taste with an image of an open social stage. The delicate light shedding from the Kumiko chandelier and the comfortable jazz rhythm create a calm atmosphere.
The concept is “A hotel where guests of the third generation can relax.”. There are 6 rooms in the main building and 6 detached rooms with an open-air hot spring bath, and the relaxing space spreads across generations. The Japanese style room with tables, chairs and sofas has a Japanese and Western appearance and everyone can relax regardless of age or nationality. Using the traditional Japanese “Yukimi shoji and kumiko”, there is also a room where you can enjoy the unique atmosphere of Japan where you can feel the transition of trees from room to room through the glass. You can spend a relaxing time to your heart’s content in a quiet atmosphere.
Each open-air bath has a different taste, and you can enjoy the time of the water flowing directly from the source while admiring the nature of each season. They also have a deck chair and cold water so let’s relax and feel the wind of Yufuin.
The kids’ restaurant, which first appeared in the building, has playground equipment, so you can enjoy meals while watching your children play. Next to the restaurant for adults, there is a bar counter where you can enjoy delicious sake and a pleasant chat after eating or taking a bath.
The dishes that makes use of the seasonal ingredients of the mountain village are lined up with carefully selected dishes. The head chef’s special fish balls and the shamo hot pot that is addicted to the soup that is full of the flavor of the shamo and the sweetness of the vegetables is also superb with the rice porridge at the end. Only beef grade 2 or higher is used for Bungo beef steak.
